There is one product that always makes people look at me funny.
They ask what it is and what I use it for.
When I tell them it’s for dressing the underside of the car and wheel arches, they always look at me to see if I’m being serious.
They can’t believe I have a product solely for dressing wheel arches that no one will look at.
Before undercarriage spray and tyre dressing and after.

What would your recommendation be for treating black plastic? The trim on my Mini looks awful and while Back to Black does get it looking OK for a week or 2 it tends to fade quickly and unevenly, leaving behind ugly patterns.

I use this stuff for black plastic, and I like it a lot. It isn’t a permanent solution, but anything other than new plastic isn’t. Even on old faded stuff, it looks good for around a month or so at a time. It will also survive a hand washing or two before needing to be reapplied. Probably the thing it does best is not attracting dust, which is important in Far West Texas/Southern NM. It seems to leave a dry-film polymer behind.

Hi. Are you wanting semi permanent or just something easy to apply that lasts a bit longer?
For some easy to apply and durable I recommend Gtechniq T1 Tyres and Trim, it last about three months. Is not overly glossy, just leaves a nice sheen.
Tyres and trim undressed.
Tyres and trim dressed.
For more permanent there is Gtechniq C4, Permanent Trim Restorer. It lasts in excess of five years.
Because it’s a glass coating. It works fantastically on the gloss plastic B pillars as it offers scratch resistance to the plastic which is so easily scratched.

It’s the last touch.
It’s like cleaning a car and not dressing the trim, you’ve got a shiny car with dull trim, so you dress the trim.
Now you’ve got a shiny car with lovely glossy trim but dull tyres, so you dress the tyres.
Now you’ve got a shiny car with lovely glossy trim, lovely sheen to the tyres but dull wheel arches that never stood out because the tyres and trim were dull, so the dull wheel arches blended in, now they stick out.

I’m looking for something that can get the trim to a uniform shade of either black or darker grey that I don’t need to apply every couple of weeks. It’s not so much the grey that is bothering me but rather the uneven fading and inconsistency across parts as you can see here:
The back is really bad with the piece along the bottom of the bumper being super faded with clear darker lines in it right next to the side pieces which are a uniform dark grey.

I recommend the semi permanent trim restorer but to check if it’s worth it.
Does all the plastic go to a uniform colour when it’s wet?
The trim restorer is uniform but as it’s a semi permanent item, it’s best to properly clean and apply.
Wash car, dry, make sure all the trim is dry all around, wipe with panel wipe/iso propyl alcohol to remove any residual grease and grime. Apply coating with a make up pad and buff with a microfibre cloth (do not re-use the cloth again, through in the bin, as the coating will crystalise and cause awful scratches if used to buff the car paint later in the cloths life).
The bottle in the video is a 15ml bottle. It doesn’t sound a lot but will easily do a whole Mini if used correctly
Gtechniq’s video.
Failure to remove residue will result it white patches of crystalised coating on the plastic.
